Quick Facts - All Coursework
This is a self-paced course divided into 6 modules that you work through in sequential order. All coursework must be completed by (11:59 pm) on the last day of class. In total there are 15 Discussions, 5 Blindfold Tests, 5 Exams, and an Essay Paper. The required textbook is “Jazz” by Scott DeVeaux and Gary Giddins. You must get the book and the CD set

Learning Modules 1 - 5 contain the following:
• Need to know and Essential Listening (list of important terms, concepts, compositions, etc.)
• Chapter Overview, PowerPoint presentation, Study Guide, Reading/Listening Assignments, Videos and Pod-casts
• Class Discussions (ongoing research and dialogue about essay paper)
• Blindfold Test – multiple choice listening quiz (you must answer all correctly before moving on, unlimited attempts.)
• Exam - true or false, worth 100 points (timed - 50 minutes and one attempt only)
Chapter Overview and Power Point Lectures are provided by W. W. Norton & Company.
Learning Module 6 contains a final summary about the essay paper. Students will satisfy the Core Learning Goal of Cultural Perspectives by completing an essay paper. Our topic is how the term "lingua franca" Links to an external site.relates to Jazz today. We will use Discussions throughout the semester to research this topic together. You should compile the concepts presented to develop further on your paper. As in a face to face class, I will participate in the discussions and help guide them. You are required to post to all discussions.
