Course-Level Notifications Enabled for All Users - What Does This Mean?
Canvas has turned on Notifications on an individual course basis for all users.
Students have this feature too and can now MUTE all notifications (easily opt to NOT receive course notifications) in a course they are enrolled in.
It's important to emphasize with your students to NOT toggle off notifications for a course.
Instead, all users should be selective in what they do want to receive notifications about in Course Notification Settings. For example students should be encouraged to continue to receive notifications for:
- Announcements
- Due date changes
- Grades,
- Conversations
The Course Home Page now displays a View Course Notifications button in the right-hand menu.
Course Notifications are enabled by default. Users can choose to disable notifications for the course.
Note: Notification preferences set in a user's personal Account Settings affect all courses. However, once a notification preference is changed at the course level, it overrides preferences set at the Account level and the user must continue to manage that notification type within the course.
